This article will mainly be a breakdown the Elite category for the Men’s and Women’s divisions. What started out as a rainy event, ended up being exciting and having some of the brightest and up and coming stars out in the field. WDZ always makes the events exciting and look no further to some of the events. With the unique terrain of the event, athletes had to show how adaptable they were with elements not commonly found in their box back at home. As a side point I really should have known Jordan Troyan would be at this event, and showing off his swimming petegre. Between his CrossFit Games appearances he came in second in the Swim Triplet, only being out pointed by the winner of the weekend, Noah Olsen.
Women:
1. Brooke Wells 692
2. Emily Bridgers 645
3. Kari Pearce 634
On the women’s side of the house don’t sleep on the 2015 CrossFit Games rookie Brooke Wells! She put on a very strong performance during the weekend and she looks to continue the trend at 2016 ECC (Kill Cliff East Coast Championships) and into the CrossFit Games season.
Men:
1. Noah Ohlsen 688
2. Garret Fisher 607
3. Will Moorad 601
Biggest Winner:
Brooke Wells- What hasn’t been already said about this athlete? She’s young and she’s proving to be a workhorse in all aspects in functional fitness. Look out for her to give Katrin Davidsdottir and Chyna Cho a run for their money this upcoming weekend at ECC. Noah Olsen- He showed why he’s a real threat again for the Games. I really think depending on what comes out to be a dominate theme in the Games this year this guy has a real shot for the podium this year.
Runners Up:
Kari Pearce is only in entering her second year of training for functional fitness full-time. This women looked incredible and is an athlete you should be on the look out later thisyear in the CrossFit Games Regional action.
Spotlight: Michael Mills
Congrats for Michael Mills coming in 3rd place in the men’s adaptive chair division. Great job! We got to catch up with Michael after the event to see what he thought of his first WDZ. How was the crowd support during the event for the adaptive athletes?
Tye crowd was amazing! They cheered for us like we were Froning or Camille…. Each and every rep, we were getting yelled for. The feeling of being treated equal was amazing.
What did you learn about yourself during the competition?
I found loop holes in my game.. I learned that training the way I do is great but I have to learn some of the adaptive movements too. My biggest mistake was the floor to chair transfers. I do those all the time but I don’t do them competition wise. . That’s a movement I will incorporate! My next, will be more rope climb training. I learned mostly that in time of a crunch, I can perform and I can push myself even further than I thought….
What was the most memorable part of the the weekend?
Wow! So many things I took away from this past weekend! I loved meeting new people that I’ve becomes Facebook friends with. But I think the biggest thing I’ve taken away from this last weekend is, I will not forget being on the stage competing and having some of the most amazing athletes that CrossFit has cheering for us all. The feeling of being treated equal will be forever a memory that will stick with me.
