OCR Racer Profile: Jonathan Reber w/TITIN TOUGH
Obstacle Course Racing is becoming a huge sport in today’s fitness landscape.
Like CrossFit, gone are the days of athletes simply trying to win competitions by training only a few times a week. It takes dedication and drive to make it to the Gold.
In the last three years, obstacle races have taken America by storm. If you don’t believe me, BattleFrog just sponsored a college Football bowl game last month. This coming year looks to be another expansive year for events and participation. To get ready for the new new season of races, we’re profiling teams and individual athletes you need to know about. This month we’re talking to stand out, Jonathan Reber the founder of Titin Tough.
When did you start getting involved in OCRs? When did you form TITIN Tough?
Started in fall of 2012 at a zombie ocr event “run for your lives” event. We formed the group in the fall of 2012 of a way to brand a group of friends that already raced together, and we are hoping OCR events will move to become a team sport.
What’s your formula for training?
Throughout all my training I use my Titin Tech compression shirt to intensify my training. Here’s my basic schedule-
Monday: Slow run for one hour just to get the legs moving
Tuesday: Hill sprints
Wednesday: Strength training in the gym
Thursday: One hour slow run
Friday: Track workout
Saturday: Recovery run with upper body strength
Sunday: One run in the mountains on the Appalachian trail
Why should a person try doing a OCR in 2016?
OCR racing has become more then just an event, its become a movement. The average athlete can participate in the same race as top athletes from around the world. Each race not only test your physical abilities, but also you mental. At the end of the race you will have a new out look on life all together because all of life’s little obstacles that are put in your way seem like nothing compared to that race you willingly put yourself through for the race.
