Get WODIFIED
Ameet Shah is CEO of Conigent, Inc., an award-winning North American consulting firm that specializes in custom cloud-based systems solutions. He’s also a CrossFit athlete and certified Level 1 trainer. In August 2012, Shah announced the launch of Wodify –www.wodify.com-, a custom mobile app designed for the CrossFit industry. He and several colleagues, who are also CrossFit athletes and technology experts, developed the app to help rapidly growing CrossFit box owners more easily track and measure athletes’ performance metrics, from strength and MetCon benchmarks to diets and affiliate management tools.
Why Wodify?
All boxes receive a 30-day free trial. The system runs on two large TVs mounted in the box as a kiosk in which coaches and athletes can log their activities during and immediately after workouts. They can then check in any time of day or night from their tablet, computer, or mobile phone to see how they compare with other athletes. In addition to tracking performance, Wodify contains a food journal and member management features for box owners, including automated billing, athlete relationship management, scheduling, class capping, point-of-sale management, business reporting and analytics, and social media integration.
“The difference between Wodify and other electronic tracking systems,” said Shah, “is its simplicity and box-wide use, rather than being a tool that only some athletes in a box will use. This really drives home community. Athletes celebrate each other’s performances, push each other to Rx and lift heavier loads. Wodify celebrates personal records with digital ribbons next to an athlete’s name. There’s a section to describe scaling, so that athletes can compare themselves to others with like performances. Also, there is zero homework, with scores simply entered at the end of each WOD from a kiosk or mobile phone,” Shah added. Wodify can be accessed at home, in the box, at work, or while travelling. The web-based application is accessible from any device that accepts web standards and works across all the major mobile platforms, including the iPhone, Android, and Windows Mobile 7.
Currently 40 boxes are implementing Wodify for their athletes, which means about 10,000 of them are tracking their performance. The goal is to have 1,000 boxes nationwide install the program. Shah, whose five-year-old technology company has won 11 awards for business growth and leadership since 2011, believes the positive reaction among current users makes this goal a realistic one.
Giving Back
Most gratifying to Shah and his colleagues is the ability to give back through Wodify’s 1-1-1 philanthropy program, in which employees volunteer 1% of their time in exchange for four paid days off a year, 1% of annual working hours is spent helping CrossFit fundraising events and non-profit organizations close to the CrossFit community, and 1% of profits are donated to community outreach initiatives. Additionally, Wodify supports Steve’s Club, a non-profit organization that provides fitness, nutrition, and mentorship to at-risk and underserved youth.
